Going Green : The Future of Luxury - It's a challenging time for the Luxury Industry - The Luxury Channel 2009

It is a challenging time for the luxury industry, with the economic downturn threatening sales, and a growing awareness of real social and environmental challenges, such as climate change, wars over resources and increasing consumer expectations of luxury brands.

This week The Luxury Channel investigates the industry's response to our changing world.

We meet Dr Jem Bendell who has been challenging the industry to place sustainability at the very heart of luxury, attend luxury industry summits in Monaco and Delhi and visit the 1.168 luxury eco fair in Paris to find out how luxury leaders are tackling issues of sustainability.

In this programme we find that the world of luxury is changing fast, and might even provide some solutions to global challenges.

Cyrille Chaudoit ( The Links )
Nothing is permanent except change used to say Heraclitus five centuries BC. The Digital Revolution everybody talks about, is for a lot of people synonymous with failure, violent, unpredictable and technological. And it is true that some companies appear to undergo this transformation as a crisis. However, if the turnaround is real, no "big night" of the consumer, but the result of a maturation of his relation to the world in general and to the brands in particular...

New American Mosaic - Askwith Forum - Diversity and The Innovation Economy - HarvardEducation 2016

Speaker : Alejandra Y. Castillo, National Director, Minority Business Development Agency, U.S. Department of Commerce

By 2044, the U.S. Census Bureau anticipates that minority populations will become the majority groups in America. What does this mean? What are the opportunities and challenges for democracy ? How do we define a New America? Undoubtedly, these are all questions that present significant public policy challenges in education, health, workforce readiness, as well as economic and business participation. The success of America’s minority populations, the mosaic of our democracy, will directly determine whether or not the United States continues to be globally competitive in an ever-changing economic and technological landscape.

Today more than ever, educators are uniquely positioned to serve as important catalysts of change. What role will they play in designing the vehicle to develop and sharpen critical thinking, support new democratic systems, and create innovative technologies that are able to advance policies and programs designed to ensure that all Americans are active participants in the economic engine that fuels the nation? The economic nexus between entrepreneurs and educators is a symbiotic relation. Castillo will provide education leaders with a call to action designed to boldly lead us into a healthy economic future by embracing the new demographic horizon with groundbreaking action and urgency.

In conjunction with the 14th Annual Alumni of Color Conference (AOCC) , “Educators as Architects: Building a Mosaic for Democracy Now!”

Part of HGSE's Fulfilling the Promise of Diversity community conversation.
