Going Viral in a Digital World - #SkollWF : Click and Tell : Adam Mordecai & Rachael Clay - Skoll World Forum 2015

Going Viral in a Digital World - Skoll World Forum 2015

SPOILER ALERT : We can’t actually make you go viral. Getting a story to go viral has become the holy grail for digital communicators, yet remains a rare event. We have seen that substantive, issue-based content can rival the success of funny cat videos, in the process garnering millions of views and breaking the stereotype of charity storytelling. But clicks alone won’t bring social change or build movements. In this provocative conversation, you’ll hear about breakthrough strategies for crafting clickable, shareable messages that create meaningful change.

Adam Mordecai is Editor-at-Large at Upworthy. When he's not trying to get millions of pageviews (300,000,000 to date) on issues like racial justice, climate change and economic inequality, he focuses on training new curators, speaking in public about how to make things go viral (winning best session at Netroots Nation and Rootscamp) and experimenting with new ways to tell stories on the Interwebs. And also being obnoxious in public. Because he's really good at that last part.

Rachael Clay established Ethicore in 2008 to help sustainable businesses, influential NGOs and institutions have a better impact through insight, engagement and partnership. Rachael has been working with business, charity and social enterprise, on social and environmental issues for over 20 years. Prior to Ethicore, Rachael worked at Oxfam as a Senior Manager on strategy development, innovation and marketing for over 10 years. Her previous experience was all commercial. Rachael was an Account Manager at The Research Quorum, Market Research Agency, and a Business Manager at the Ordnance Survey, Britain’s Mapping Agency.
